Dog Training in Whittier California

Here I’m working a fairly large dog at Laurel Park in Whittier California. This is a basic drill as we use the handlers positioning and body to keep the dog in a Heel position. Towards the end I start to work on about turns. However, it looks like the dog needs a little more work on the stationary Heel exercise with the food lure for this to work, so I switch to a recall from motion.

1
00:00:00.220 --> 00:00:03.820
I want to do this left circle. This is where you're leading with the right, like
2
00:00:03.840 --> 00:00:05.479
when you're going around the car.
3
00:00:09.140 --> 00:00:13.020
Leading with the right will keep him back into a
4
00:00:13.060 --> 00:00:14.000
heel position,
5
00:00:15.240 --> 00:00:17.760
especially if there's a distraction like this.
6
00:00:18.480 --> 00:00:21.780
You want to keep him back where he's paying more- Come on.
7
00:00:23.500 --> 00:00:23.760
Come on
8
00:00:24.880 --> 00:00:27.920
… more attention to you than the dog.
9
00:00:29.480 --> 00:00:31.660
And if I can, I'll try to use praise.
10
00:00:32.561 --> 00:00:34.380
Off. I don't want you off
11
00:00:36.260 --> 00:00:39.560
over there. He's really oriented to the
12
00:00:39.660 --> 00:00:41.520
dog. He wanted to
13
00:00:42.800 --> 00:00:44.400
get a little out of control,
14
00:00:45.300 --> 00:00:46.560
so I'm going to cut him off.
15
00:00:49.060 --> 00:00:52.640
Come on. Right here. Come on, right here. Good dog.
16
00:00:52.980 --> 00:00:55.000
And then praise to keep his attention
17
00:00:57.760 --> 00:01:01.660
oriented. Good job. Right up here. Good boy.
18
00:01:02.160 --> 00:01:03.320
What a clever puppy.
19
00:01:05.320 --> 00:01:09.080
So I'm trying to use my body to control him more than the leash, if possible.
20
00:01:09.140 --> 00:01:12.800
He's just oriented-- Come on. Right up here. Come on.
21
00:01:13.980 --> 00:01:14.380
Good.
22
00:01:15.580 --> 00:01:16.339
Good dog.
23
00:01:19.000 --> 00:01:21.880
Come on. Good boy.
24
00:01:22.860 --> 00:01:23.300
Good.
25
00:01:24.980 --> 00:01:25.360
Sit.
26
00:01:27.720 --> 00:01:29.240
I know you can do it.
27
00:01:32.600 --> 00:01:34.260
Then I think
28
00:01:38.640 --> 00:01:41.440
we'll do right here. Come on.
29
00:01:44.520 --> 00:01:47.000
Good boy. Right up here. Good. Sit.
30
00:01:48.180 --> 00:01:50.960
There we go.
31
00:01:51.030 --> 00:01:54.840
Good. Good job. Come on. Off.
32
00:01:56.420 --> 00:02:00.220
And if his nose goes down now, I'm going to do the off heel with the
33
00:02:00.320 --> 00:02:02.740
food. Off one,
34
00:02:03.720 --> 00:02:06.600
two- Come on … three, take.
35
00:02:09.120 --> 00:02:09.680
Ivan.
36
00:02:11.380 --> 00:02:11.700
Come on. Come on.
37
00:02:13.020 --> 00:02:14.310
Good boy. Good. Good dog.
38
00:02:18.600 --> 00:02:22.220
Good. Okay, that's good. Now I'm going to do some right
39
00:02:22.280 --> 00:02:25.660
about turns, just straight to the dog and about face. Come on.
40
00:02:26.500 --> 00:02:27.640
Come on. Good boy.
41
00:02:33.260 --> 00:02:37.140
Heel. Oh, he's going to change Distractions. Heel. Come on.
42
00:02:38.400 --> 00:02:40.800
Good boy. Good boy.
43
00:02:42.360 --> 00:02:43.000
Heel. Come on.
44
00:02:44.260 --> 00:02:46.460
Come on. Good dog.
45
00:02:47.280 --> 00:02:47.750
Good boy.
46
00:02:49.260 --> 00:02:49.560
Come on.
47
00:02:51.120 --> 00:02:53.120
Come on. I think I'm going to call it for today.
48
00:02:55.220 --> 00:02:58.740
Bristol, good boy. Good. Take.
49
00:03:01.080 --> 00:03:04.040
I'm not doing a finish with him. Come on.
50
00:03:05.880 --> 00:03:06.140
Yet.
51
00:03:07.380 --> 00:03:07.700
Come on.

52
00:03:10.489 --> 00:03:14.300
Bristol,
53
00:03:14.440 --> 00:03:17.560
good boy. Good. Okay, that's good.
54
00:03:19.860 --> 00:03:21.780
You did good, Bristol. Sit.
55
00:03:25.880 --> 00:03:26.180
Come on.
56
00:03:29.320 --> 00:03:29.600
Come on.
57
00:03:32.260 --> 00:03:32.660
Right here.
58
00:03:34.000 --> 00:03:34.340
Sit.
59
00:03:35.480 --> 00:03:36.520
Good. Take.
60
00:03:37.980 --> 00:03:39.560
Release. Release.
61
00:03:40.540 --> 00:03:41.620
Okay, that's good.

Until next time, I am wishing you the very best in dogs and in life.
